Is a street in the historic centre of Rome (Rione Regola). It was one of the first important urban planning project in Renaissance Rome.

Via Giulia was projected by Pope Giulio II but the original plan was only partially carried out. This was the first European example since Antiquity of urban renewal.

Trans Tiberim.

Its name comes from the Latin trans Tiberim, meaning literally "beyond the Tiber".

By the time of the Republic, the number of sailors and fishermen making a living from the river had increased, and many had taken up residence in Trastevere. Immigrants from the East also settled there, mainly Jews and Syrians.
The area began to be considered part of the city under Augustus, who divided Rome into 14 regions (regiones in Latin); modern Trastevere was the XIV and was called Trans Tiberim.


Il relativo nome viene dal latino trans Tiberim, significante letteralmente “oltre in Tevere„.

In età repubblicana, le zone vicino al fiume si popolarono di quei lavoratori che avevano a che fare con il fiume, come marinai e pescatori, e ci fu una grande affluenza di immigrati orientali, principalmente ebrei e siriani. Per questo nella zona sorsero alcuni templi di culti orientali
La zona ha cominciato ad essere considerata parte della città sotto Augusto, che divise Roma in 14 regioni (regiones in Latino); l'attuale Trastevere era la quattordicesima ed era chiamata regio transtiberina.
