Outskirts - Periferia

I live in a district "particular "called "Tufello." The district is born in the years '50 to give a house to the families in economic difficulty. Its building typology (as that of similar districts) belongs to the history of the Italian architecture.

Io vivo in un quartiere “particolare”chiamato “Tufello”. Il quartiere nasce negli anni ’50 per dare una casa alle famiglie in difficoltà economica. La sua tipologia edilizia (come quella di quartieri simili) fa parte della storia dell’architettura italiana.


In the last years many of his buildings have been restructured. This is a example.

Negli ultimi anni molti dei suoi edifici sono stati ristrutturati. Questo è un esempio.

Toward the sun. - Verso il sole.

Five friends cross the bridge, they leave the shades of the morning and they go to warm up to the first ray of sun that illuminates Trastevere ("trans-tevere", over the tiber).

Soft bridge - Ponte mollo.

Its name is Ponte Milvio and it is still the most ancient Roman (207 B.C.) bridge in use in the city (even if for old citizens its name is that of "Soft bridge").

The beautiful tower of guard (of the Valadier), who was serving to check who was coming in and going out of the town, today lodges pleasant painting shows.

For the young and romantic Romans, at last, this is alone "bridge of the padlocks",.. but this is another history..!

Si chiama Ponte Milvio ed è il più antico ponte romano (207 a.c.) ancora in uso in città, (anche se per vecchi cittadini il suo nome è quello di “Ponte mollo”).

La bella torre di guardia (del Valadier), che serviva per controllare chi entrava e usciva dalla città, oggi ospita piacevoli mostre di pittura.

Per i giovani e romantici romani, infine, questo è solo “ponte dei lucchetti”, …. ma questa è un’altra storia…..!

Estate, vacanze, un caldo afoso. Vedo la chiesa, entro e sono solo io, in questo piccolo globo bellissimo e fresco. Questa è la mia "immagine ricordo".

Food, suits, fun.. this is what we believe the boys interests. There is luckily (our and them), who finds more interesting to grow with the performance of a Greek tragedy in one afternoon of sun, in the middle of a lawn.
Cibo, abiti, divertimenti .. questo è quello che crediamo interessino i ragazzi. Per(nostra e loro) fortuna, c'è chi trova più interessante crescere con la recita di una tragedia greca in un pomeriggio di sole, in mezzo a un prato.

The days are still warm and it are pleasant, after the Sunday lunch, to refresh in this quiet.

Coppedè -

The district calls Coppedè, and it is famous for this type of dismayed constructions of fantastic elements.
Il quartiere si chiama Coppedè, ed è famoso per questo tipo di costruzioni costernate di elementi fantastici.

Forbidden pleasures. - Piaceri proibiti.

A beautiful company of friends, anything to drink and to eat to the coolness of the evening... to whom would not like to possess a "loggia" as this! Probably a small part of that is alone that did here the cardinal Altemps. This in fact it was his building.

Si chiama “Largo di Torre Argentina” ed è famosa nel mondo perché tra queste colonne è stato ucciso Giulio Cesare.


There is, however, another motive for which this place is famous in Rome: be the colony of sleepier and nice cats of the city!

C'è , però, un altro motivo per il quale questo luogo è famoso a Roma: è la colonia di gatti più sonnolenti e simpatici della città!

Bernini: the death and the ecstasy - Bernini: la morte e l’estasi.

The monument is in its chapel of the church of St. Francis to Ripa. The work of the Bernini shows Ludovica Albertoni on its deathbed, between the mortal suffering and the religious ecstasy.

I have forgotten so many things of my life, but I remember well still the first show to the circus that I saw when I had few years, and a bit of that dream, for luck, I have remained still inside.

Station Ostiense - Stazione Ostiense

Another image taken to the flight by the bus. Another image in the less known Rome.
This is the beautiful barracks of the officers of the fire "Station Ostiense".
Planned by the architect Vincenzo Fasolo in the classical style of the fascist epoch that recalls the Roman empire:use of the “tufo” and the “travertine” (abundant to Rome) to give a feeling of order to the structure harmony.

The pipes for the water after the use, were washed in a tub and facts to dry inside the tower that you see.
It cost, to the epoch, in 1926, few more than two million and a half of the old liras and it asked for two years of time

Questa è la bella caserma dei Vigili del Fuoco della “Stazione Ostiense”
Progettato dall’architetto Vincenzo Fasolo nello stile classico dell’epoca fascista che richiama i fasti dell’impero romano:
l’uso del tufo e del travertino conferivano una sensazione di armonia dando alla struttura
un’idea militaresca all’esterno e monastica all’interno.

I tubi per l’acqua dopo l’uso, venivano lavati in una vasca e fatti
asciugare dentro la torre che vedete.
Costò, all’epoca, nel 1926, poco più di due milioni e mezzo delle vecchie lire e richiese due
anni di tempo.

The Commune of Rome prohibits (justly) whatever publicity in the historical center of the city.

To revolve the prohibition the sponsors of the restaurations they have gotten to be able to be publicized during these jobs.
Result: be mostly visible, the jobs that lasted 6 months can also last 1 year!


Questo è l’obelisco Lateranense: nascosto dai lavori di restauro e/o visibile.
Il comune di Roma proibisce (giustamente) qualunque pubblicità nel centro storico della città.

Per aggirare il divieto gli sponsor dei restauri hanno ottenuto di potersi pubblicizzare durante questi lavori.
Risultato: per essere maggiormente visibili, i lavori che duravano 6 mesi possono durare anche 1 anno!

S.Maria Maggiore:the bell tower

Built in 1375-76 in Romanesque style, the bell tower is the highest in Rome (about 75 metres high).
