S.Benedetto in Priscinula

In the heart of Trastevere, the most "Roman" neighbourhood of the Eternal City, can be found the church of San Benedetto in Piscinula. With more than a thousand years of history, it constitutes a remarkable treasure of the medieval art of Rome.

It was at this building, around the year 480, that the venerable Abbot came to study and resided during his stay in Rome

The church is very small and discreet. It resembles a Basilica in miniature
La chiesa è molto piccola. Assomiglia ad una basilica in miniatura

A quaint Romanesque bell tower, the smallest in Rome, crowns the church.
However this small bell tower holds a great treasure: the oldest bell in Rome, cast in 1069!

A beautiful little treasure you are showing us..
And as usual your choice of lights is perfect!
Does the oldest bell in Rome still ring?

Nazzareno ha detto...

it is the most ancient bell, but it is also the smallest church in a very popular district

"Are you mad about what has been happening inside Iran these days? Well then take a deep breath... blow it all into a Green Balloon... and wait until Friday afternoon to send it up to the sky, wherever you are on this planet. Millions of Iranians inside Iran are planning to paint the sky green on Friday exactly at 1pm Tehran time. The non-violent green movement is being cracked down on the ground, so lets take it to the sky."
