The Fountain of the Naiads (Piazza della Repubblica) - La Fontana della Naiadi

Built in 1888 following the designs of Alessandro Guerrieri who placed four chalk lions around the large circular basin, then replaced in 1901 by four bronze groups by the sculptor Mario Rutelli which represented four nymphs: the Lake Nymph (with the swan), the River Nymph (riding a river monster),the Ocean Nymph, (on a wild horse), and the Underwater Nymph ( lying on the back of a dragon)

In the centre is the "Glauco" group, carved by the same Rutelli and added in 1912, symbolizing the dominion of the man over natural force (!)

It looks like a powerful fountain. When the weather gets hot I love to sit close to a fountain,I find it very refreshing..
I like the little church in the back of the first picture.
Enjoy your WE.

Those photos are exquisite! The figures in the fountains are so life-like. It must be refreshing to sit near the fountains on a hot summer day.

Well then take a deep breath... blow it all into a Green Balloon... and wait until Friday afternoon to send it up to the sky, wherever you are on this planet. Millions of Iranians inside Iran are planning to paint the sky green on Friday exactly at 1pm Tehran time. The non-violent green movement is being cracked down on the ground, so lets take it to the sky."
