A small fountain - Una piccola fontana

The 'Facchino' (the porter) is a small fountain representing a male figure, whose face is very badly preserved, pouring water from a cask; the robe worn by the statue is the typical costume of the porters guild, whence the figure's name.

It dates back to the second half of the 16th (1587), and according to a popular tradition it was inspired by a water-carrier (a man whose work was to draw water from public fountains and sell it, door to door, for a moderate price).

This is an amazing link with the past. I'm trying to imagine what it looked like in 1587. We are lucky that it has survived to this day.

Rome is such a fabulous place - even in the summer heat, you need not go more than a few steps to hear water bubbling on some corner. What a clever decor this one comes with. :)
Roma ti amo!

Carrying water to the people's door! Hmm, with the water shortage coming, maybe we will return to such customs.

Well then take a deep breath... blow it all into a Green Balloon... and wait until Friday afternoon to send it up to the sky, wherever you are on this planet. Millions of Iranians inside Iran are planning to paint the sky green on Friday exactly at 1pm Tehran time.
