S. Maria of the Prayer and Death – S. Maria dell'Orazione e Morte

The church of Santa Maria dell'Orazione e Morte (1575) is a small church in Rome, on Via Giulia between the Tiber and the Palazzo Farnese.
La chiesa di Santa Maria il dell'Orazione e Morte (1575) è una piccola chiesa a Roma, su Via Giulia tra il Tevere ed il Palazzo Farnese.


The church was built by a confraternity that assumed responsibility for interring abandoned corpses in Rome.
Burials were performed in their cemetery, once sited on the banks of the Tiber adjacent to the church.
La chiesa fu costruita da una confraternita che si è presa la responsabilità per sotterrare cadaveri abbandonati a Roma.
Le sepolture venivano compiute nel loro cimitero, una volta situato sulle banchine del Tevere adiacente alla chiesa.


It is remarkable for the depictions of laureled skulls over the facade entrance and other death imagery
È straordinaria per le sculture di crani coronati d'alloro sulle cornici d’ingresso e altre immagini della morte.

Palazzo Barberini

An exceptional trio of architects, Maderno, Borromini and Bernini, worked on this majestic building. In 1622, Maffeo Barberini, soon to become Pope Urban VIII, acquired a rustic villa in this area from the Sforza family and commissioned Maderno to reconstruct it.
Un eccezionale trio di architetti, Maderno, Borromini e Bernini, hanno lavorato a questo maestoso edificio. Nel 1622, Maffeo Barberini, futuro Papa Urbano VIII, acquistò dalla famiglia Sforza una villa rustica in questa area e incaricò Maderno per la ricostruzione.


When Maderno died in 1629, the jobs for the completion passed to the Bernini

The decoration has several references to the heraldic symbols of the Barberini: the bees and the sun

The building was acquired by the Italian State in 1949 and now houses the Gallery of Arte Antica. The Gallery includes works of Giulio Romano, Raffaello Sanzio, Perugino, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Tiziano, Tintoretto, Caravaggio, Tiepolo, Hans Holbein, N. Poussin, etc.
L'edificio fu acquisito dallo Stato italiano nel 1949 ed ora ospita la Galleria di Arte Antica. La Galleria include lavori di Giulio Romano, Raffaello Sanzio, Perugino Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Tiziano Tintoretto, Caravaggio Tiepolo, Hans Holbein N. Poussin, ecc.

… and to console me, a day on the snows of the Gran Sasso, the tallest top of the center Italy, even if to the departure the clouds didn't leave a lot of hopes…
… e per consolarmi, una giornata sulle nevi del Gran Sasso, la cima più alta del centro Italia, anche se alla partenza le nubi non lasciavano molte speranze…

Result of the elections in Italy, the left loses and the right wins, it loses the seriousness and the desire to do well, it wins the ignorance and the private interest. Returns the middle age of the vulgarity...

Risultato delle elezioni in Italia, la sinistra perde e la destra vince, perde la serietà ed il desiderio di fare bene, vince l'ignoranza e l'interesse privato. Ritorna il medioevo della volgarità..


...and I am not happy at all
