Fountain of the Big Mask - Fontana del Mascherone

This rather bizarre fountain was made in 1626 by combining two ancient sculptures. It was commissioned by the Farnese family.
Is named the, for obvious reasons.

The bathtub of collection the water , and the big mask (in marble) from whose mouth gushes out the water, is of roman age.
In 1720, when Marcantonio Zondadari was elect 65° Master of the Order of Malta, the fountain threw wine to the place of the water for many hours of continuation

This fountain is very beautiful and its histoy very interesting. I like very well the last picture. It has tremendous charm. That is an excellent search. I have some old postcards of Paris. May be a day I shall post them.

Moi, in the middle of my roses .. When I look at your photos, which give me desire elsewhere. I would like to know your country. Not the kind "gondolas in Venice" No, the secret, intimate, the beauty that nobody sees.

The figure in the fountain has such an unusual expression on their face. I really like it. What history it has seen! Thanks for showing us the older picture too. It helps us to realize how long it has been there. Amazing!
